At this year's Taipei Computer Show (Computex 2019), we saw many manufacturers of PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD products. As one of the well-known partners of Phison, PNY also showed off the upcoming XLR8 CS4040 series of high-end SSD products. It uses a public version based on the grouped PS5016-E16 master + 3D TLC NAND, offering 500GB / 1TB / 2TB third gear capacity, sequential read speeds up to 4800MB / s.
In terms of sequential write speed, the 500GB version is only 2100MB/s, but the 1TB / 2TB version can reach 4000MB/s. As for whether there is any special training in the firmware, PNY has not disclosed it.
In July of this year, AMD's Ruilong 3000 series processor and X570 chipset motherboard will be officially launched, bringing PCIe 4.0 support to consumer platforms, but storage vendors may not be able to keep up.
It is reported that the thermal design power (TDP) of the group PS5012-E12 and PS5016-E16 masters has reached 8W. If PNY does not have a cooling vest on the final product, they may not guarantee optimal performance (or for a compact environment such as a laptop).
